Friday, February 26th, 2010Do you think it’s wrong to breed dogs to the extremes we’ve bred them to? It’s insane to me a pug and a great dane are the same species. Is that ethical? I worked with dogs for years and generally the more deformed the dog was (breed-wise) the less intelligent/healthy it was.
I just don’t get the point of it, especially toy dogs. It seems cruel to me, and bizarre. Taking a wolf and making it into a pug… imagine if we did the equivalent with humans? WTF!
I’d leave out working dogs, who go through a pseudo evolutionary process based on how well the dog does a job. I’m referring more to breeds that were bred to achieve a certain visual end, like pomeranians.
