A week ago my dog had her puppies while out in the yard by her dog house. We mistakenly thought that she was not due for another week or so. She was chained out on her lead when it happened. Anyhow, all of her puppies were out of her reach!! They were in holes dug in the yard, under leaves, in ditches and brush piles, etc. We searched quickly and found all eight puppies (Thank God!!).
Herein lies the question… what happened? Clearly she did not put them there, nor did they move there on their own. They were only minutes/hours old. Someone told me that the father dog sometimes comes and burries the pups to keep them warm until mom can tend to them. Is this true? None were harmed. We are very curious! (All 8 are healthy now and mom and pups are in their bed area up by us now…)

Friday, January 22nd, 2010eclampsia and nearly died she is doing ok but is not allowed to be with her puppies for long intervals just long enough for them to feed for maybe 10 or 15 minutes they have a huge bed my husband made for her especially to have room to feed her puppies now though she is doing something i have never seen her do she nibbles at bedding and the towel we have laid by the side of her box she keeps picking up with her teeth and moving it around till its in a pile almost like she is trying to nest has anyone seen this before after the puppies have been born and she already has a nest im a little concerned about it

Thursday, January 21st, 2010a friend of mine claims that her three month old chichiuas were piled on top of each other in there dog bed and she believes that a rat killed them and was going to come back after them.i am wondering if it was flea infestation that killed them and if the mom piled them for some reason.

Poor Quality, Full-of-filler Dog Food That My Puppies Love So Much!?
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009My 4-mth old mini-schnauzer and my 3-mth old Finnish Spitz puppies ONLY LOVE Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Puppy formula!! The food is full of corn and fillers! When I tried other brands that had meat as the top ingredients and NO corn, they had constant diarrhea and very soft stools and pooped at least 6 times a day, PER DOG – big soft piles.
Now, on the crappy food, they gobble it faster than they can breath and poop less!
This makes no sense to me.
I also have a cat and he only likes the poor quality, full-of-filler cat food too – Science Diet!
Ugh! I am trying to feed my pets healthy, high-quality foods but the better the quality, the more they have stomach issues!
Please someone, help me feel better about my $8 bag of poor quality food that my dogs, and cat, absolutely love! Ugh!
