He’s a hyper little mini-schnauzer – 9 years old. Now he doesn’t get excited and whatnot when I pull the leash down or offer him a treat. He barely like to stand up and has been hiding under the bed all day. and I’ve cleaned up piles of puke everywhere. Pepto didn’t help him last night. When I tried to give him more this morning, he wouldn’t take it (I put it in a slice of cheese). I can’t see how he could have gotten into anything bad because everything is kept in a cabinet (my dad is OCD and doesn’t leave ANYTHING out) and he follows my dad like a shadow). Money’s tight but if he needs to go to the vet we’ll go. What should we do?

Apart from the reasons for him vomiting, he will now be dehydrated. Dehydration can kill a dog.
Regardless of the fact that he may have been drinking, he could have a high temperature and could have become dehydrated. Dehydration can kill a dog; you can re hydrate him with electrolytes. You can either get sachets of electrolytes from the vet or make your own. Its 1 litre of cooled boiled water, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Use either a syringe or a bottle with a sports top that has previously contained water to administer this. Tilt his head down and squirt A SMALL AMOUNT towards his teeth to prevent choking. Do this about every fifteen minutes. Often vets don’t suggest this, I suspect that they want to add to their income by admitting the dog and putting it on a drip. Having said that, I do think that most vets are honest and caring and your dog should be examined by a vet.
Don’t tempt your dog to eat at present, he will recover sooner if he rest his digestive system. Nevertheless he must have electrolytes.
hate to say it but vet vet vet! my dog had symptoms like that and it turned out he had stomach cancer and the tumors were blocking the food from getting to his stomach so he was throwing up everything her was eating. Your dog is probably very dehydrated by now and ever if he has stopped throwing up he will most likely need intervenes fluids to hydrate him. Take him to the VET!
Take him to the vet anyways! If you can’t afford an animal than you have no business owning one. Would you not take your kid to the doctor because you didn’t have money. Talk to your vet and see if he can arrange a payment plan, if not then there is care credit, you apply for it and make monthly payments
Well, you shouldn’t feed your dog Pepto…that’s for humans only.
I know your money may be tight but if you really care about him, please take him to the vet. The vet will know what to do and you can make payments to pay it off. Plus, he may be getting old. In human years, he is 63!
He needs to see a vet, yes. Prolonged vomiting is dangerous because the dog can get dehydrated. His lethargy is telling you he is becoming dehydrated.
What do you mean a ‘cabinet’??
He really needs to go to the vet. He could die from being so dehydrated. At least get some subcutaneous fluids and nasuea meds for him at the vet.
Did you possibly give something with chocolate in it to eat?
Dogs have been known to throw up if fed with chocolate.
I think since he is this sick he does need to see the vet.
Wtf dont ask us take her to the vet
yea he really needs to go to the vet because my dog was throwing up alot a couple months ago, and he was like really lethargic and wouldnt eat for like two days so we went to the vet and it turns out he had a peice of a chicken bone in his tummy! he stayed at the vet all night and eventually he pooped it out. im so glad he didnt need surgery! however the cause for your dogs sickness might be different so take him to the vet! maybe he ate some bad weeds or maybe he has something in his stomach like my dog did . anyways take him to the vet, its the only way to really find out . good luck <3
Your dog is very ill. Regardless of what he has, as a small dog he has few physical reserves and dehydration alone will kill him soon enough.
He needs a vet ASAP! He should, at a minimum, be on an I.V. to keep him hydrated then tests can be run to determine why he is ill.
But, get him to the vet right away. His hiding and barely being able to stand is an emergency situation – VET NOW!
ADD: Using Pepto and/or Kaopectate under vet’s orders is just fine.
Sweetheart, being lethargic, constant vomiting and just not being himself, are all Big Red Flags! I would stop giving him the Pepto, since it’s not helping him anyway. Is the cabinet that your dad keeps everything in locked, or is there any way that your dog can somehow get access to it, if he tried hard enough? As tough as times are right now, this is an Emergency Situation with your dog and I think that if you don’t want this situation to get any worse and possible turn out tragic and you lose him, because of something that he has, that you are not aware of, that you need to get him to a vet, the sooner the better. His behavior is definitely Not Normal and something is seriously wrong. The vet is the only one who can help your dog and who can tell you exactly what’s going on and hopefully, it’s something that can be treated. I would not take any chances. It’s not worth risking your dog dying, because you wait too long to get him to the vet. Please, for his sake, take him in Today!
