I am currently housesitting, which includes one medium sized German shepherd and a large mixed breed.
They are fed once in the morning and once around supper time, with two or so treats each throughout the day.
Tomorrow I am working and will be away from the house for a total of 10 hours. If I let them out before I leave and then as soon as I get home, will this be okay?
I don’t want to cause discomfort to them in any way, and I also don’t want to come home to a pile of dog crap by the front door.
Is 10 hours too long for them not to go outside to do their business?
I would exercise them extremely before you leave them, if they have crates definitely use those. The longest my dogs were able to hold it without obvious discomfort was about 12 hours and my dogs are 7months – 21months old, so I think they will be fine if you get them tired before you leave. You may call up the owners and ask their opinion, they know their dogs better than anyone else.
At least twice a day!
we leave are dog home alone (no crate) for 8 1/2 hours every friday. she (lab) does just fine.
so i say 10 hours should be ok, take them out before you leave and after you get home. just leave them water..
dont worry about it they will be fine!!
Leave them outside for a few minutes after they go out the first time before you leave. Dogs will often relieve themselves multiple times if you give them enough time. That way they are sure to get everything out before you leave. My dog was always fine in the house even for 10 – 12 hours. I wouldn’t do it all the time but every once in a while wont hurt them!
