Lilly is a two year old pitbull/rotwieller mix. Ever since she was a puppy she has this thing where she burries her nose in things when she sleeps. She likes to sleep in our room on the pile of clothes in the closet and not her HUGE comfy dog bed BECAUSE that way she can find a peice of clothing to stick her nose under when she sleeps. It weird to say the least because sometimes she can’t breath as good because of she does that. WHY would she stick her nose so deep and hard in things that she sometimes has trouble breathing? I’ve even taken away the pile of clothes so she couldn’t do that…..well she just curled up in a ball against our bed so the weight of her body would stuff her nose good against the bed. What’s wrong with my dog? I don’t know what to do…everytime I take something away she finds a new way to do it. I don’t get why she stuffs her nose against things like this when she sleeps. Anyone know? More importantly does anyone know how to rid her of this?

It seems like she likes your scent. Why don’t you give her a few items you don’t use anymore?
Yes, she craves the comfort of your smell on the clothes. Let her have an old garment of yours to cuddle with. She is lonely!
I know it seems excessive, but she’s only young and needs the comfort.
My cat always lies on my clothes if she gets the chance, for the same reason.
it sounds like a comfort thing. Your bed, your clothing..these things remind your dog of their favorite human YOU. If you are really determined that she sleep on the bed, try getting an old blanket or a garment, wear/use it for a few days so it is covered in your scent, then put it on the dogs bed.
don’t worry she can breathe. why does this brother you. some people can,t sleep unless their heads are covered. i can’t breathe but they can. as a puppy she would bury her head in her mother’s coat and she would feel safe. now she makes her own safe.
maybe she smells you in the clothes or the bed and thats why she is doing it
It’s a comfort thing. My JRT does it too. I just went and bought a few baby blankets and put one in his bed. He snuggles up to it and snores away. When I change the sheets on our bed, I change his bed too…No Biggy.
Dont worry about it if she feels comfortable like that then let it be I have a Bull terrier that does the same thing. thats just how she is, Accept her uniqueness, you have a terrier buddy just accept the quirks (its half the fun)
yep it’s all about sharing your/her scent&i guess warm/snuggly..a comfort thing maybe?Whatever the reason, she sounds absolutly adorable!
PS:i’m not sure if you should try to stop her, maybe you could call a puppy scool(dog training??)&explain to them about what your’s does&see what they recommend(may not be a problem)so long as there is not risk to her health,i reckon leave her to it(may be her little habit).Just a thought..
Instead of trying to rid her of it, why not get a blanket for her big comfy dog bed so she can stuff her nose under it? If that’s what makes her happy, why worry about it?
