no dog should be left alone for that long, especially as a puppy. It will lead to problems. Consider a cat, or a hamster instead

I love my chihuahuas! They both think they own me…however, like any puppy, they need attention and being gone for school will be hard on the puppy…..unless you have someone who will dog sit!

If you have to be away for a long time the dog would need to have an area to roam free as a puppy make sure you have a play pen or an area for it. That usually becomes a safe zone for the pup so make sure its positive and leave a TV or Radio and the dog should be fine. I have a Jack-a-bee she is a small- med( 12lbs) dog sh’s a mix between a jack russell and beagle mix surprisingly very quite and with a few walks is not as hyper as a lot of people may think. They love to be with you and are very loyal. They learn really quick and love to cuddle, play, and swim. My parents also have a long hair chihuahua she is a little more hyper but is nothing but a lover. Any dog can be a good dog it just depends on how much time you have to train them. The Jack-a-Bee is a great starter dog. Think mix they are the best lovers and have minimal health problems which means more money in your pocket. Also you can find any dog you like on petfinder.com including puppies but they will be rescues and they have descriptions of the pups and you can find one with the personality that you want.

Yorkshire terriers would fit nicely with your description.

No puppy can be alone that long, you should wait until the beginning of summer vacation if you want a puppy. Otherwise your puppy will need daycare. You can contact shelters, they will have adult small dogs and could match your criteria.
Also you cannot have a dog that craves attention from their owner and is ok with only having a few hours in the evening with their owner.
Add. Jack russels need A LOT of exercise, not a good breed to be home alone.

No reputable breeder or rescue sells/adopts puppies at christmas
holidays are way too stressful for a puppy to go to a new home
and you and your mom are gone way too long for a young puppy. They need taken out often to potty, and also need time for socialization. If you’re going to get a dog, I’d suggest a young adult, or wait until summer to get a puppy when you’d have more time with it.
Most small dogs are very clingy to their owners.. liking other people comes down to socialization, and not being loud comes down to training.

i would say a puppy shouldn’t be left a lone that long but i have been in that situation, as long as you work with it on the weekends it should be fine. i would recommend a papillion they are around 7 pounds and adorable, they can be a little loud but only if you allow them to be that way, they have beautiful fur that looks like a high upkeep but weekly grooming should be good, they are complete lapdogs and are soo fun, i love mine!! but if that isn’t an option an animal shelter is always a good option. u can look up a pic on google, they r adorable!
