Why do people cater to,spoil indulge,refuse to train/discipline dogs now-a-days?
What’s w/all the stuffing them into obesity,allowing them to terrorize humans,destroy property,living in reeking manure piles,going w/out sleep……spending outrageous amounts of money……..???????
Where & when did the cult start?
How long will it last?
Is there a de-programming system available? An intervention?

these are the same folks that feel like it’s ok to eat hamburgers from McDonalds, but couldn’t EVER shoot a deer, nevermind butcher the thing!
when you go out, don’t you notice hordes of misbehaving little children, whose parents say “now now, honey…”
they’re the same passive, ball-less FREAKS who refuse to train or discipline their pets- for the same reason they let their children run amok- “because it might damage their little psyches if we make them do what we want them to!”
well- same end result- spoiled children, spoiled pets- they get into trouble- because no one ever told them NO and backed it up- they get what they want, whether it’s video games, or biscuits- and they scream when they don’t get it: till they DO get it.
taking RESPONSIBILITY for the animals AND children (sometimes they are one and the same) raised is something people no longer do!
an unruly dog who snarls used to be smacked and told to “shaddup”. then it didn’t do it anymore. now people are making excuses “he was abused”, etc. so they don’t have to be responsible for fixing it.
an unruly child who threw tantrums, chucked food, talked back, wouldn’t pay attention- well he used to get a little spank and a time-out- or at least spoken to sharply enough to understand what he’d done is WRONG- well he’s now just like the dog- only the excuse there is that he’s got “ADD” or some other BS like that.
when you find that de-programming system, may i share it with you?
My theory?
There are a whole lot of people out there who were raised to believe the world should be handed to them on a silver platter because they were good boys and girls who were given a lot of Participation Ribbons but never had to earn a darned thing or, god forbid, win anything…. Those people grew up, hit the REAL world and realized “OMG – I am NOT all that, I’m really not much of anything special at all… and OH NO – humans in general really aren’t all that either!” – which began a form of self-loathing and in extreme cases evolved into the PETA-esque groups. Feeling generally rotten about themselves – they went out and got a dog who will “LUV” them and look upon them adoringly. Since they never learned to work for anything TRAINING the dog went out the window. Besides, the doggywoggy might not “LUV” them if they actually disciplined it.
The “cult” started in the late 60’s… and has been gradually expanding with the dumbing down of America (and some of Europe).
The only intervention possible is when people start to actually value their dogs for being DOGS… and when they learn some critical reasoning skills (which means they have to be able to extrapolate and interpret information as well as take the NEXT STEP and come up with new ideas or ways of looking at things). Oh.. and it wouldn’t hurt if they weren’t so blasted LAZY as well.
I am not my Dobermanns “mommy”, appreciate that in the eyes of the law I own my Dobermanns, but they are nevertheless an extended part of the family {pack} & I have been known to refer to them as “the kids”.
I do enforce clear black & white boundaries of what is acceptable behaviour, recognise that a dog is not a human child & do not expect my dogs to behave like human children. I fully appreciate that to do so would be to work against canine nature & would be likely to result in behaviour problems.
Problems occur when people fail to provide the leadership role for the dog, spoil, over indulge, provide little or no training, mollycoddle, bask in the fact their dog is protective, when it’s in all probability weak nerved. Dogs are not furry human children & need {horror of horrors} discipline & training.
When I was a child it was not common place for demanding behavior to be rewarded with success, I was given boundaries, rules & consequences for bad behavior.
While there are parents incapable of disciplining their children & cannot choke out the word “no” to the I want it demands, money will line the pockets of back yard breeders & puppy mills, who are all too happy to supply the demand. When the puppy require training & even worse expenditure, if may disposed of just as casually as it was purchased.
No de-programming or injection to give a backbone or common sense to those who don’t have it.
Because its EASY.
Anything that is EASY is automatically done. Its the same way with kids, jobs, marriages, and the current state of the world.
Training your dog takes time and effort, not training it takes nothing and *you* rarely have to deal with the consequences because they’re so CUTE.
Dogs are nothing more than leash candy for most people, and it’ll stay that way so long as puppies stay cute and slowly grow into dogs.

I raised my kids to RESPECT another person. If they didnt theyde get a fair beating. Look at my kids now. They turned out alright. Theyre actually decent human beings. Now you cant spank a kid? If you ask me we need to bring the rulers back. A good slap on the *** would do these kids some good. Put some spine on em! A little respect. A little value!!
People dont discipline their wittle kids. Why their little mutts? There dogs are treated like their kids. Cant MAKE a dog do anything. Cant MAKE a dog sleep outside. Poor little thing might be lonely. If the dog wants to drag me down the street thats ok! God forbid I correct him with a horrible collar correction!!! Frikin peta and hsus groups are driving that spineless bandwagon.
You think the lazy give me everything I want or need and throw out whatever is old or I dont want people would actually TRAIN a dog? Naw! Just get rid of it.
Look at the purse dogs. Havent met one that doesnt bark and bite! Damn thing would have a hell of a time in my care.
my dogs are dogs. I treat them like dogs. They have a job to do and they do it. I give em food. I give em a warm place to sleep. Thats all they need or want. Why in hell would I treat them any different?
It started when children began being raised by those other than their parents. We were raised to have common sense and these kids have been raised to say ” give me give me I want it I want it” I don’t know about most of you but, I had to work for everything I got. I worked a whole week in my dads garage and at the end of the week I got ” you’re wearing shoes aren’t you? Did you eat today? Then you were paid” They don’t truly care about these animals. They would treat them as they are “dogs” if they did. It’s all self indulgence and we are to blame for it. Our generation created these spoiled little monsters and we need to take responsibility for it. I don’t know when it will stop if ever in our lifetimes. What scares me is today’s young dog owners are tomorrows parents…………God help us all
Add: I believe since nothing was given to us we learned to appreciate more what we did get.
Toys were more wonderful, clothes were exciting and a pup was like a dream come true.
This is a disposable world now and everything can be replaced (dog, belongings and even people) If you screw it up you just get a new one.
Sad when you think about it.
AND WHO THE HELL IS THE GOVERNMENT OR LAW ENFORSEMENT TO TELL ME I CANT SPANK MY OWN CHILD OR DOG?
I think some of it started when they started showing all celebrates and their pampered pooches on the *boob tube*! You know, it’s called *follow the leader*! I don’t recall anyone that I knew dressing their little beasts 40+ years ago. Now days, dogs have a canopy bed and their mommies tuck them in every night with a hug and a smooch! Gee, even I as an only child never had a canopy bed. Wa wa wa, stomp stomp stomp…..so my dogs ain’t gettin one either! As for de-programming….maybe if these people ask their Grandmas and Great Grandmas how dogs were treated, MAYBE they would listen and just let their dogs be DOGS!
I think it’s people who believe they are helping and loving their animals, but are acrtually killing them with kindness.
It’s not malice or cruelty, it’s simply ignorance.
It will last as long as people have more money than sense, and as long as they remain ignorant to proper dog care.
They do the same with their children. And they see their dogs as substitue children.
