What Small Dog Breed Do You Recommend For Me?

I want a small dog for Christmas, that is of course a puppy when I get it. Anyway from what I tell you, what small dog would fit me best?
I like dogs that would like me best, but still be friendly to other people. Like a one person dog.
I like dogs that crave much attention from there owners.
I do NOT like loud dogs.
And I have school from 8:30-3:30. My mom & dog have work. Would the small dog be okay inside for hours?
What small dog breed do you think would fit me best?

  1. It seems like a great breed for you would be the West-Highland terrier. This breed packs a lot of energy but are very obedient dogs as well. It seems like an almost perfect fit for your lifestyle and the dogs as well. Good Luck!

No puppy can be alone that long, you should wait until the beginning of summer vacation if you want a puppy. Otherwise your puppy will need daycare. You can contact shelters, they will have adult small dogs and could match your criteria.
Also you cannot have a dog that craves attention from their owner and is ok with only having a few hours in the evening with their owner.
Add. Jack russels need A LOT of exercise, not a good breed to be home alone.

No reputable breeder or rescue sells/adopts puppies at christmas
holidays are way too stressful for a puppy to go to a new home
and you and your mom are gone way too long for a young puppy. They need taken out often to potty, and also need time for socialization. If you’re going to get a dog, I’d suggest a young adult, or wait until summer to get a puppy when you’d have more time with it.
Most small dogs are very clingy to their owners.. liking other people comes down to socialization, and not being loud comes down to training.

  4. i would say a puppy shouldn’t be left a lone that long but i have been in that situation, as long as you work with it on the weekends it should be fine. i would recommend a papillion they are around 7 pounds and adorable, they can be a little loud but only if you allow them to be that way, they have beautiful fur that looks like a high upkeep but weekly grooming should be good, they are complete lapdogs and are soo fun, i love mine!! but if that isn’t an option an animal shelter is always a good option. u can look up a pic on google, they r adorable!

I think the best way for you to decide would be to go to http://www.puppyfinder.com and take the ‘breed selector’ quiz, which will then give you a list of the most compatible dogs for you, also you can look at specific breeds and find out more information on ones you might have in mind.

A Jack Russel Terrier. They are small, smart and quiet (usually). And they love to sitt on your lap.http://www.terrificpets.com/dog_breeds/J…
Please read a how to book on puppies before you get one though.

no dog should be left alone for that long, especially as a puppy. It will lead to problems. Consider a cat, or a hamster instead

I love my chihuahuas! They both think they own me…however, like any puppy, they need attention and being gone for school will be hard on the puppy…..unless you have someone who will dog sit!

If you have to be away for a long time the dog would need to have an area to roam free as a puppy make sure you have a play pen or an area for it. That usually becomes a safe zone for the pup so make sure its positive and leave a TV or Radio and the dog should be fine. I have a Jack-a-bee she is a small- med( 12lbs) dog sh’s a mix between a jack russell and beagle mix surprisingly very quite and with a few walks is not as hyper as a lot of people may think. They love to be with you and are very loyal. They learn really quick and love to cuddle, play, and swim. My parents also have a long hair chihuahua she is a little more hyper but is nothing but a lover. Any dog can be a good dog it just depends on how much time you have to train them. The Jack-a-Bee is a great starter dog. Think mix they are the best lovers and have minimal health problems which means more money in your pocket. Also you can find any dog you like on petfinder.com including puppies but they will be rescues and they have descriptions of the pups and you can find one with the personality that you want.

Yorkshire terriers would fit nicely with your description.
“The Yorkshire Terrier, or “Yorkie,” is a dainty, lively, affectionate, happy, energetic, confident and devoted dog. He focuses completely on his family, and wants to be near you and will sit and cuddle in your lap–but only for so long! He loves and seeks out adventure, and can get into mischief if he isn’t given enough to do. He is not a dog who can be left alone in a yard; he needs human companionship. He is a very high-energy dog who requires only moderate exercise because of his size, yet still needs to romp and play around the house, and chances to run free in the yard. He loves to travel, and he likes long, daily walks. He plays hard and seems to have a boundless capacity for fun. When outdoors, he should always be leashed or in a safely enclosed area, because he will chase after small animals. He is also fearless and assertive and will confront much larger dogs. He can get along with dogs and possibly with cats if he is brought up with him, but he will hunt and can harm smaller, rodent pets. He gets along well with older, responsible children, but does not have the patience for younger, smaller ones.
He is a fragile dog who if handled too roughly will snap at them. He mustn’t be tossed, or allowed to jump from high places. He is a friendly dog who likes people, although he can be timid with visitors if he isn’t introduced to them while still a puppy. An outstanding watchdog, he is intensely protective, guarding his territory fearlessly with his acute hearing and his relentless, high-pitched bark. He can be annoyingly barky and yappy, and must be trained to stop yapping on command. He is easily trained, eager to please you and can remember many different commands. He excels at dog sports, especially agility. He can however be stubborn and willful if he doesn’t get his way, and needs to be trained with a great deal of patience and praise. He is difficult to housebreak. He practically doesn’t shed so he would make a good pet if you are a clean-freak.”
